Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Hong Kong China Delegation Meet with Media to share preparation for upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

The Hong Kong China Delegation will be competing in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games from 28 August to 8 September. All athletes are getting ready to compete in this highly anticipated international Para sports event. The China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) arranged a Meet the Media event on 16 August, where athletes and coaches from Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Equestrian, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Fencing shared their preparations and expectations on the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Hong Kong China Delegation of Paris 2024 Paralympic Games consists of 69 members, with 23 athletes competing in 8 different sports, including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Equestrian, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Fencing.

Dr. John Leung Lai Yin, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong China Delegation to the Paris 2024 Paralympics Games, as well as Swimming athlete Ng Cheuk Yan and Cheung Tsun Lok, who are both making their debut in the Paralympic Games, shared their excitement towards the games. Dr. Leung said, “It is glad to see many first-time Paralympic athletes joining us this year and we look forward to seeing their performance in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. I believe members of the delegation will do their best to win honour for Hong Kong and tell our good stories.”

Swimming athlete Ng Cheuk Yan balances her studies with the preparation of the Paralympic Games to perform the Games in the best condition.

Ng Cheuk Yan, the youngest-ever member of the Hong Kong China Delegation in Paralympic Games, won three gold and two bronze medals at the Para Swimming World Series Singapore 2024 in May, and achieved the A-standard result to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. 14-year-old Ng Cheuk Yan expressed, “I was very excited to get a gold medal in a major international swimming competition. To balance my studies with the preparation of the Paralympic Games, it is important for me to allocate my time efficiently, targeting to perform the Games in the best condition.”

Swimming athlete Cheung Tsun Lok hopes to take this opportunity to enjoy the grand stage and appreciate the cityscape of Paris.

After winning silver medals in individual and relay swimming at the Hangzhou 4th Asian Para Games, Cheung Tsun Lok was awarded as the Most Promising Junior Athlete of the Year in the Outstanding Junior Athletes Awards organised by the HKSI this year. He will do his best at the Paralympic Games, hoping to take this opportunity to enjoy the grand stage and appreciate the cityscape of Paris.

Athletes from Badminton, Table Tennis, Boccia and Wheelchair Fencing performed sports demonstrations on-site, allowing everyone to catch a glimpse of the local Para athletes.
